Hillsborough Ladies

Welcome to Hillsborough Golf Club.

It is an honour to be asked to be Lady Captain and this year is particularly exciting as the Club has signed up to the R&A Women in Golf Charter and I am the Charter Champion.

I’m really looking forward to working with the Club, Carol Axe the Lady Vice Captain and its members in welcoming  new junior girls and ladies of all ages and abilities to  play at our lovely course. I would encourage anyone to come along and have a go even if you’ve never picked up a club before.

I only started playing 5 years ago so I’m very much a new golfer myself and still have lot’s to learn.  The great thing about the ladies section is that there is a wealth of playing experience and this is really helpful in building confidence and enjoying your game. I like the mix of getting a good walk (well over 10,000 steps) and the challenge of the game itself followed by a well-deserved visit to the club house afterwards.

Captains Charity

My Charity this year is Support Dogs for Autism, for Epilepsy, for Disability.  This is a very small Charity based in Sheffield but provides support dogs all over the country.  Please read below a description of the work they do which I think you will agree is  well worth our support.

 Charity - Support Dogs

At Support Dogs, we are dedicated to improving life for the people who most need us by training and providing life-changing support dogs. From keeping children calm and safe, to alerting their owners prior to an oncoming epileptic seizure, from raising the alarm in emergencies to helping open doors and get dressed in the morning, our support dogs transform the lives of their families.

Our specially trained support dogs transform the lives of their families. We run three programmes: autism assistance for children, disability assistance for adults and seizure alert programme for people with epilepsy, we are the only organisation in the UK that trains dogs to do this specialist work.

Support Dogs training centre is in Sheffield and we support people all across mainland UK. Over 4500 people across the UK asked for our support in 2019.  We provide all our services entirely free of charge to all our beneficiaries and as we receive no government funding we must raise over £21,000 to train one support dog and £2,000 each year to support this life-changing partnership.
