A message from the board - Coronavirus Update

Dear Member, The Board of Directors met yesterday evening to discuss and agree HGC response to the current situation surrounding Covid-19, also known as the Coronavirus. Hillsborough Golf Club provides this considered approach, taking into account the advice offered by the Government, the NHS and that of Yorkshire Golf, and as of today that offered by Sir Patrick Vallance (UK Chief Scientific adviser) who was responding to the UK Health Select Committee. The Board reserves the right to make any restrictions or otherwise should the situation change and we are mindful that this is a distinct possibility so we ask that all members acquaint themselves with current notices before playing. The judgements that the Board makes will always be made in the best interests of our employees, members and visitors. We will of course keep you updated regarding changes via email and our social media platforms. `We would also be appreciative of any suggestions from any member, that would help ensure the safety of our employees, members and visitors. In summary, the following will apply with immediate effect although we must stress that as a Board and a club, we are deeply concerned about the health and well-being of our members and urge you all to follow government advice regarding non-essential socialisation: Day-to-Day Operation The club will continue to remain open. The Golf course is open for play but we would ask members to please abide by the following; • Wash hands thoroughly before and after play and if possible, take hand sanitiser onto the golf course with you and use at regular intervals • Please retain as much distance as practicable between each other on teeing areas and putting greens • Putt with the flagstick in, in order to avoid having to touch it to remove or replace. • Please do not shake hands at any point and avoid all extra physical contact. • All ‘fiddles’ and group golf are discouraged by the club – we are encouraging members to arrange their own fourball only, and to attempt to avoid as much close personal contact as possible in and around the communal areas, such as outside the proshop by proceeding directly to the golf course from the car park. The Captain’s Shotgun Drive In will be cancelled and instead the day will be rearranged to allow normal tee bookings through BRS The Captain will send out separate advice on this. • All golf whilst social in nature will be conducted by booking a tee time on BRS only – this will allow people to turn up directly before their tee time in the knowledge they can proceed directly to the tee. No matter what format of golf you play going forward, please consider how you use scorecards. We would discourage swopping of cards. If you need to use a scorecard, take one and fill in the details on behalf of your playing partner and retain it. If you don’t need a scorecard don’t take one. The bar, will remain open subject to the following : • Tables & chairs will be re-configured to afford extra space between them, and if customers do elect to use our facilities they will be encouraged to retain as much distance as reasonably possible between each other. • Continue to use hand sanitiser where available. We will try and make this and similar products available around the clubhouse. • Tables and chairs will be wiped down thoroughly by staff on a regular basis. We would request your cooperation and understanding if they approach your area. • We would encourage any payments to be made by cashless methods. Please use your club card for purchases if possible. If you do not have one contact the office or proshop immediately. • Windows will be left open where and when appropriate to allow fresh air to circulate around the clubhouse. Catering will continue with the following in place; • Day to day catering will continue as normal for the time being. • Group bookings will be considered on an individual basis and managed accordingly to ensure all elements of risk are managed. • If you do not feel comfortable utilising the clubhouse but would still like to eat, please consider ordering food at the start of your round, which can be collected from the kitchen and consumed away from the premises at your leisure. The catering staff will work with you to arrange this. The pro shop will remain open for business although we would actively discourage any type of ‘social gathering’ within it and would ask members to apply their own discretion and if there are already two customers in there to wait outside until someone leaves. The pro shop staff will be responsible for keeping all surfaces and stock as sanitised as possible and will undertake a risk assessment over and above this. If they wish to impose further restrictions or guidance, we would urge you to adhere this. The Office will remain open for the hours already identified but restrictions will be imposed. • There will only be one administrator in the office at any one time. A further member of staff may work from there to assist with core and essential club duties only. • The office will only be open to members who have urgent enquiries and/or making payment of subscriptions (This includes the collection of club bar cards. Collection of which should be arranged by phone, prior to any visitation.) These visits should be kept as brief as possible and owing to its size only ONE member will be allowed into the office at any one time. • Under no circumstances should any member or visitor encroach behind the office counter area. • Windows to be kept open as appropriate to ensure the continued circulation of fresh air. Competitions No decisions have been finalised at this time as to how and when any club competitions will be conducted going forward. We will continue to review the situation Further advice will be issued in advance of our competitive season commencing, to prevent cards being handled by multiple persons in submission, recording and the checking of scores. Please be assured that any decision on this will be made and communicated at the earliest opportunity. This is a fluid situation and it goes without saying that common sense should always prevail. You are encouraged to heed any governmental or NHS advice which is circulated, before we can reasonably be expected to contact you. Take care all Best wishes HGC Board
